Have you ever been sitting outside on a nice day eating a piece of cheese and a mosquito flies by then suddenly you start itching? Well, believe it or not, mosquitoes like cheese! The main cheese that they are attracted to is the limburger. The reason for this is because limburger cheese has close enough odors to a humans to confuse the mosquitos. Crazy, huh?

What attracts mosquitoes the most other than cheese?  Depending on the type of blood you have, the more or less mosquitoes are attracted to you. Only female mosquitoes take blood. They use the protein and iron from your blood to lay their eggs. Humans need iron to make the oxygen and that carries proteins.

Many things happen when a mosquito bites. Once a mosquito finds a place to land, she injects her proboscis in to our skin. A proboscis is a long sucking mouth that a mosquito uses to dig underneath our skin and find a blood vessel to pierce. The mosquito spits into our skin to get the blood to flow. This spit is what causes the raised bump and itchiness.

Some mosquitos do carry different diseases. The reason why mosquitoes come at night or stay in the shade is because they like cool areas. In conclusion, be aware of mosquitos and don’t stay out too long at night or you’ll be “eaten alive!”
